Cellana’s sermon, “… and may I, by God’s grace and the loving intercession of Our Lady of Consolation…” they went on to the end. The assembly was so quiet that you could almost hear people breathing. The photographers almost suffocated the altar as each squeezed himself somewhere to take yet another shot of the profession novices.

ImageEl arzobispo de Buenos Aires, Jorge Bergoglio, realizó la misa de despedida del fallecido cura referente del Bajo Flores y uno de los fundadores del Movimiento de Curas del Tercer mundo, Rodolfo Ricciardelli. Luego, una procesión a pie por la villa 1-11-14 culminó en el cementerio de Flores.

La capilla María Madre del Pueblo desbordó su capacidad por todos los vecinos del Bajo Flores, miembros eclesiásticos y figuras de la política porteña que presenciaron la misa del arzobispo de Buenos Aires, Jorge Bergoglio, para despedir los restos del fallecido histórico cura villero, Rodolfo Ricciardelli.

CNS photo/ReutersSouth African human rights activist Nelson Mandela was inspired by the Catholic Church's involvement in social justice concerns during his many years of incarceration, he wrote in a letter from prison to the country's first black Catholic archbishop.

Mandela, who eventually was freed and elected president in South Africa's first inclusive poll in 1994, also wrote to Archbishop Stephen Naidoo of Cape Town that he was uplifted by the pastoral care provided by clergy on Robben Island, where he was imprisoned for 18 years.

Photo by digitalcongo.netLe difficoltà che attraversa la Repubblica Democratica del Congo, denunciate dai Vescovi nel messaggio pubblicato al termine della loro Assemblea Plenaria, sono state analizzate in un rapporto presentato dall'Assemblea Nazionale. Il documento, che sintetizza il lavoro di 5 commissioni speciali, formate ciascuna da 12 deputati, è basato sulle relazioni (oltre 500) elaborate dai parlamentari nei loro collegi elettorali. I diversi deputati hanno raccolto le informazioni sulla situazione locale ed hanno steso una relazione che, insieme alle altre, è servita a completare un quadro complessivo della situazione del Paese.

Mission in the Second Decade of Globalization
The Second Decade of Globalization

It might seem odd to some in this seminar on mission and globalization and what it means for missionary congregations to begin talking about the “second” decade of globalization. I have deliberately chosen to do so for a number of reasons. The first is to remind us how long we have been grappling with this phenomenon. While talk about globalization reaches back into the 1980s, it wasn’t until the collapse of Communism in most countries and the rapid spread of information and communication technologies that globalization began to press itself upon our consciousness as it does today. Secondly, in having had nearly two decades to ponder it, we should be looking at the phenomenon in a more nuanced way.
