For the first time, on October 8, 2001, Mr. Girma Woldegiorgis was elected the President of Ethiopia by the parliamentarians for the duration of six years as it is stipulated in the republic constitution. From the beginning of this week, the mandate of Mr. Girma Woldegiorgis reached to its term. All the Ethiopians started asking themselves about the fate of their Country. It’s striking ten; on Tuesday October 9, 2007, Mr. Girma Woldegiorgis was re-elected President of the Democratic and Federal Republic of Ethiopia by the parliamentarians for six more years. In Ethiopia, the President of the Republic has a symbolic position in official organization chart.
The election was held in presence of all government members. Immediately, after the election, Mr. Girma Woldegiorgis took the oath to the tribune in front of the legislators.
Last but not least, I would kindly like to remind you that Mr. Girma Woldegiorgis is the second president of the Republic of Ethiopia since the end of the transitional period which followed the decline of the ancient regime of Mr. Mengistu Mariam commonly qualified “Marxist-Dictator”. The first president was Mr. Meles Zenawi, who is the current government Chief. Mr. Meles Zenawi was the president from 1991-1995, but during his reign, the full power was under his control as a President. In the same year 1995, the constitution of the Country was changed. After changes, a parliamentary and federal regime took place in Ethiopia.
May God bless Ethiopia in general and Mr. Girma Woldegiorgis in particular! Amen. |
