Harare is one of the Ethiopian Cities. It is located in the Eastern party of the country, almost 530 km from Addis Ababa, the capital City. With regard to the history of Harare, it is known that the City of Harare was structured by the French people who used to come from Djibouti. That is the reason why many people speak French language and can express easily. From Addis Ababa to Harare, it is an asphalted and clean road. On the way, scenery is admired: mountains, zigzagged road, a lot of Camels... Why the Camels are more found in Harare Vicariate?
At first sight, the Camel is more available in the Eastern part of the Country, in particular, starting from East Shoa, Afar, Somali and Dire dawa regions. Camel is a desert animal which has special behaviour and surviving of life more than other animals. It needs a hot area. Very strange to realize that the Camel can survive without water from almost 20 days to 25 days by storing water on its back. With the Camel, we can get the milk, meat. But most of the time, due to the high cost of the Camel, its meat is mostly utilized or eaten during the big feasts or ceremonies. The Camel can be also used for transportation of objects and stuffs like wood, charcoal, etc… depending on the materials for trading. The Camel’s milk is known as a very nice medicine. It is used for treating cold, hay fever, etc… Every body is not capable to purchase a Camel. Knowing the Country’s life cost, to purchase a Camel needs a lot of money and financial sacrifice. One Camel costs from 4000 Ethiopian Birr to 7000 Ethiopian Birr; which may be from 425$ U.S. to 744$ U.S.
The guiders of the Camels are living their lives by migrating from their own places to other places with their Camels for searching food for their Camels. The Camel is an exhilarating animal and sign of health for those tribes in Harare Vicariate. Camel is a treasury, even an outstanding asset for those tribes. We were dumbfounded and surprised to hear for example that if you ask one person from those tribes to make a decision on killing either one of his son or a Camel, he will quickly say to kill the son and to live the Camel. Which life!!!!!!
I personally believe that it is just redundancy and the way to stress the value and importance of Camel in their daily lives. At any time you get the opportunity to visit Harare Vicariate, please; try to get acquainted with them.
Thanks to God for the beauty of His creation, Amen!
