The ten Consolata Missionaries in South Africa met at Pax Christi Pastoral Centre, Newcastle, on the 26th -28th May 2007. We had a recollection day to conclude the biennium. During all this time we were reminded that the goal of our baptism and missionary vocation is to be holy!Blessed Joseph Allamano used to say: "first saints and then missionaries".
Has been Fr. Mario Barbero, who helping us in these last six months, before leaving South Africa guided us to understand this dimension of our Christian and missionary life.
Some speeches of the Pope Benedict XVI and the Spirituality of the Founder Bl. Allamano were used to help us to see that the journey towards holiness goes beyond the biennium, because Holiness is a process and is the journey of life. This retreat was also a preparation to start with all the faithful the year of St. Paul. The Celebration of the Eucharist in honour of Our Lady Consolata and the renewal of our vows were the center of the meeting. Then we shared information and we spoke about the opening of the Theological Student House in Merrivale, Archdiocese of Durban, by the end of this year. It is also important the commitment of all of us as Missionary and Vocation Animators in the Christian communities where we work and beyond.By the end of our stay together, we also proposed to the General Direction the names to be considered for the appointment of the superior for the Delegation of South Africa.Leaving Pax Christi Pastoral Centre, is still resounding in our minds the Benedictus antiphon of today, Wednesday of the fourth week of the Psalter, "Let us serve the Lord in holiness all our days".
