 Damesfontein Mission was built up by Fr. Giorgio Massa about thirty years ago. Now when he is speaking about the meetings with the people, the visiting at home, the catechumens, the building of the churches etc. it seams that it was just a dream vanished in the past of the times.Appointed back to Damesfontein Mission, at the beginning of this year, after twenty-three years of absence, Fr. Giorgio recognized that many families either emigrated somewhere-else or even joined some other churches/religions. Consequently the attendance at the Eucharist celebrations is poor.
In our Community meeting of April 2008, Frs. Carlos Giorgio and Rocco agreed to invite all the people of the mission for a special celebration at the end of May. First we thought to remember Our Mother Mary concluding her month; but the church building is dedicated to the Sc. Heart of Jesus, and his feast this year is on the 30th May.It was a nice surprise that the people of Fernie 1 collaborated to paint the building church and to make the church's compound looking better, but it was really a joy to see so many people attended the celebration this evening. The people repeated, several times, that the Catholic Church in Damesfontein Mission is still alive and we whish her to grow again in spirit and number.The event was dived in four main parts:
Presentation of each community (outstation) of the mission with a song and dancePrayer of the Rosary Candlelight on the street of the township Celebration of the Holy Eucharist
